Westbourne Grove is a fabulous area for all shoppers running across Notting Hill, just minutes from Hyde Park Towers Hotel. It runs from Kensington Park Road in the west, to Queensway in the east, crossing over Portobello Road where the famous market takes place. It contains a mixture of independent and chain retailers. You can find many boutique shops, beautiful florists, unique jewellery shops, funky restaurants offering a wide range of cuisines and small clubs, too. Popular shopping destinations located near Westbourne Grove are Ledbury Road, Holland Park Avenue, Portobello Market, Clarendon Cross. Otherwise also known as "Westbourne Village" it offers something for every traveller.
This area is also crammed with famous residences such as Jamie Oliver, Robbie Williams, Sophie Ellis Bextor and many other British stars and famous people. It was here that Madonna headed during breaks in filming "Evita" and where many films were produced.
The development of Westbourne Grove began in the 1840s. It takes its name from Westbourne Green - a settlement that developed to the west of the bourne that later took the name River Westbourne. This river currently runs underground at Ossington Street.
Queensway and Westbourne Grove are now recognised in the London Plan as one of 35 major centres in London. Every year the Notting Hill Carnival passes along the central part of Westbourne Grove and continues onto Ladbroke Grove area.
