Chinese New Year Celebrations 2010

Welcome the Chinese New Year in London with a season full of special events and celebrations across London.

Chinese New Year 2010 falls on 14 February and is going to be the year of the Tiger. The main London Chinatown Chinese Association celebration takes place on 21 February in many parts of London such as Chinatown, Trafalgar Square and Leicester Square.

The opening ceremony will take place on Trafalgar Square with groups from China, firecrackers, music and dance, Chinese dragons, lions and Chinese acrobatics. Chinatown is the place where you will find special decorations, stalls, delicious food and lion dance displays. There will also be a stage featuring performances by local Chinese artists on Shaftesbury Avenue. And finally, the celebrations will end with fireworks display lighting up the sky above Leicester Square.

Many of London's museums and galleries including the British Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum are also preparing special events and exhibitions for the time of the New Chinese Year, so do not forget to check their websites for details, too.

Make sure you do not miss this special day!
